Hello! My name is Sam Browning, and I am a sophomore with an intended English major and Digital Studies minor at Davidson College. In my spare time, I sing with the Davidson Generals all male a cappella group and in the shower, and I play a lot of Spikeball. I have also recently become interested in rock climbing and love spending time with my friends doing pretty much anything. Furthermore, I am a very talented artist (see my self portrait below).
On a more serious note, I’m currently most interested in teaching after college. There are a few teachers throughout my schooling that have had a real impact on the person I’ve become, and I want to have a chance to make that impact on others, and to make education fun and engaging for my students.
If you’re interested, check out my Digital Design site! Thanks for stopping by!

I enjoyed hearing about why you want to teach! I like how you hyperlinked the Spikeball website so that people who are unfamiliar with this game can learn more about it. Also, your drawing made me laugh!
Hi Sam!
I have always wanted to learn how to play Spikeball; I’ve seen many people playing outside of Chambers when it’s warm. Thank you so much for the link!
I’ve also had a few teachers who’ve inspired me to follow the career path that I’m set on. Do you know what you’d like to teach?
I think that there comes a point in our lives where at least one teacher has made a huge impact on us as individuals, and it’s commendable that you want to do the same for others. Also, I could only dream of having the hand-eye coordination needed to play spikeball.
Hey Sam,
First of all, LOVE the drawing!! Very minimalist. I think we’re the only two people who “drew” ourselves haha. I’m curious about what spike ball is! Is it more like golf or baseball? Fun fact: I played golf competitively as a child but now I don’t play anymore. I think it’s so cool that you’re interested in teaching. I loved hearing you talk about the integration of teaching and gamification in class– this is totally legitimate and an intersection I have never considered before! Really exciting!!
Haha thank you! I considered being a Studio Art major, but decided to go with English instead. Spikeball is probably best described as volleyball at a net on the ground? It’s pretty different from golf and baseball (but the competitive child golfing is impressive! Did you win anything?) I’m glad you enjoyed the gamification stuff! I’m definitely gonna try to implement the idea into future classes during my Davidson career.
Hey Sam! I didn’t recognize this was your post until I saw your self-portrait, thanks for including it.
It’s really cool to hear how you’ve had teachers who have inspired you to pursue education. I came into Davidson assuming that I would enter the education field myself, but I’m not so certain anymore. I would enjoy discussing what interests you so much about the profession sometime. Great post!
Haha glad it helped! I’ve been told I have a great eye for detail. I’d definitely be down to talk about some education stuff! Honestly, I’m still not sure what I want to do either. Thanks for checking it out!
